After years of working as a telecom professional at a private company, I decided to switch to a government job. But destiny had something else in store for me.
On the way to the entrance exam, I suffered from heatstroke. Rather than waiting around to sit the next exam, I joined a local company here in Jaipur. And it turned out to be a great hands-on introduction to the world of selling online.
I onboarded to Flipkart’s eCommerce marketplace to reach customers nationwide and began attending the Walmart Vriddhi programme.
The Walmart Vriddhi programme helped me get to grips with the nitty-gritty of business as I scaled up my online sales. There’s a mix of technical and process information. It’s very interactive and informative.
I have gained technical know-how, like how to identify fast-moving and slow-moving SKUs and calculate the cost of storing inventory – and how to use this knowledge to make better decisions. I’ve also learned a lot of practical processes, from how to produce a proof of value report to how to build a marketing programme.
After completing a few Walmart Vriddhi modules, I realised I could invest in machinery to reduce my manufacturing costs. I also recognised that I could foray into B2B selling and tap demand from industries like hotels and hospitals.
We entrepreneurs need to generate demand for our products and services—this is what allows us to grow. I wish to open a factory someday, so I need to create demand. For me, this means expanding my business to B2B.
I’ve already paid off my credit loan, and I’m eyeing expansion. Next, I’m adding internationally inspired products under his three new brand names: Racoon, PillowValla and Customer Lifetime Value (CLV).
Destiny put me on a new path, and I’m excited to see how far the journey will take me.
