Diving into eCommerce has helped my business grow

After graduating from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University with a Master’s in Marketing, I joined my family’s automation business in 2016. That same year also saw me embark on my entrepreneurial journey with the launch of Skylock, my brand of packaging materials.

At first, I had a shop in Chandni Chowk, but I felt like a “small fish in a big pond.” The competition was fierce, with lots of similar sellers nearby. Back then, Skylock’s online presence was just a website with my contact information on it.

By 2018, Skylock was thriving. However, I still wanted to diversify my product portfolio and further expand my reach in business-to-consumer (B2C) and retail sales by better leveraging online marketplaces. Even though I had high-quality products and competitive pricing, I needed to do more to strategically position my products for eCommerce.

Fast-track to knowledge

The onset of the pandemic only served to further solidify my belief that the biggest challenges I faced were the uncertainty of offline sales and the rise of online platforms. To mitigate the effects of the pandemic and these market changes, I joined the Walmart Vriddhi program.

What would have taken me four or five months to learn on my own was accomplished in only two or three months in the Walmart Vriddhi program.

The learning modules on listing your own products, finishing bulk orders, and creating your own brand have been tremendously helpful and continue to guide me in nurturing and growing my business. Skylock turnover jumped to INR 3 crore in 2021, with 50% to 60% coming from online sales.

Practical steps to success

One of the things I appreciated the most about the Walmart Vriddhi program was that I was able to put what I was learning from each module into action as I was studying it.

This practical experience made it much easier for me to upskill at speed. I also liked how the reading materials and videos came together within the structure of the modules to help me understand the nuances of online business.

My next step is to launch the family’s automotive business online. eCommerce truly has immense potential, and the Walmart Vriddhi Program has given me an avenue to truly leverage it.
